Heat can be transferred from one place to another by three different methods, namely Conduction, Convection and radiation. An example of conduction through contact between two solids is a cooking pot on the solid surface of a hot stove. Conduction is heat transfer within solids or between contacting solids. Conduction usually can occur in solids such as various types of metal and glass. The atomic picture also will help explain why conduction is more critical in solids: in solids the atoms are close jointly and unable to move round. Conduction heat transfer is the heat transfer through medium without accompanied by displacement of the particle medium. Conduction is the mechanism by which heat is transferred within material objects and between material objects that are in physical contact with one another. Conductive Heat Transfer Heat-transfer equipment in which heat is transferred by conduction is so constructed that the solids load (burden) is separated from the heating medium by a wall. You can then apply the principles of Carlaw & Jaeger's 1947 Conduction of Heat in Solids to come up with an estimate for the cooking time. This is the primary method of heat transfer in solids and it works best of all in metals (because loosely bound electrons play a role). Conduction is the one of three types of heat transfer in which thermal energy transfers from one point to another through the interaction between the atoms or molecules of the matter. Conduction Firefighter Conduction. The greatest flow of heat possible between materials is where there is a direct conduction between solids. It is also an efficient method of conduction in liquids, but occurs hardly at all in gases. The governing equation for heat transfer by conduction is: Conduction Equation.
