Pop-math books I find work far less well than pop-science. Already in your book “Mathematics: A Very Short Introduction” you noted the “myth of music and maths”, and recently I stumbled with an extended opinion of yours published in the “The Independent”. Pythagoras: We've all known about this guy since our primary school math classes, but I think he deserves a “Very Short Introduction” book all by himself. The second is that it is a dry, heavily mathematical activity beyond the understanding of the non-specialist. However, I'd suggest (unless you want to read an actual math book) Tim Gowers a very short introduction to math.
